Alex produced a large body of work of London theatre performances. Through his friend Jenny Stein who was Director of the Whitechapel Gallery and then founded the Riverside Studios Gallery, Alex met theatre director Peter Gill and became an unofficial artist in residence at The National Theatre.

Introduced by actor friend Dorcas Morgan, he also drew at The Players Theatre, and then at The Lyric Hammersmith where he exhibited his paintings of rehearsals for Don Juan, directed by Piers Gibbon and starring Tamsin Greig.

His theatre work was exhibited at the Marina Henderson Gallery in Chelsea.
